Carbon Steel Coil

Carbon Steel Coil is a coiled steel made of carbon steel as the main material through hot rolling or cold rolling process. It is widely used in construction, automobile, machinery, home appliances and other industries. The following is a detailed introduction to carbon steel coil:
Main classification
By process:
Hot-rolled carbon steel coil: high temperature rolling, large thickness (usually more than 1.5mm), with oxide scale on the surface, high strength but low precision, often used in structural parts, pipes, etc.
Cold-rolled carbon steel coil: further cold-rolled by hot-rolled coil, thinner thickness (0.2~4mm), smooth surface, precise size, used for precision parts such as automobile plates and home appliance shells.
By carbon content:
Low carbon steel coil (C≤0.25%): soft and tough and easy to form, such as SPCC (cold rolling) and SPHC (hot rolling).
Medium carbon steel coil (C 0.25%~0.6%): high strength, requires heat treatment, used for mechanical parts.
High carbon steel coil (C>0.6%): high hardness but brittle, used for springs, knives, etc.
According to the purpose:
Structural steel (such as Q235), stamping steel (such as 08Al), deep drawing steel (such as DC04), etc.
Common grades
Chinese standards:
Hot rolling: Q195, Q235, SPHC
Cold rolling: SPCC, DC01 (St12), DC04 (St14)
International standards:
American standards: AISI 1008, 1018
European standards: EN DC01, S235JR
Japanese standards: SS400 (hot rolling), SPCC (cold rolling)
Production process
Hot rolling process:
Slab heating → rough rolling → finishing → coiling → cooling → finished product.
Cold rolling process:
Hot rolled coil pickling → cold rolling → annealing → finishing (trimming, oiling, etc.).
Main application areas
Construction: steel structure frame, roof, bridge (mainly hot rolled coil).
Automobile: body panel, chassis parts (cold rolled deep drawing steel).
Home appliances: refrigerator, washing machine shell (galvanized carbon steel coil).
Machinery: bearings, gears (medium and high carbon steel coil).
Pipes: welded pipes, spiral pipes (hot-rolled narrow strip steel).
Market and purchase points
Price factors: affected by the price and supply and demand of raw materials such as iron ore and coke, usually priced by ton
Key parameters:
Thickness (0.2~20mm), width (600~2000mm), inner diameter (508/610mm).
Surface treatment: galvanizing, color coating, etc. can enhance corrosion resistance.
Quality certification: must comply with GB, ASTM, JIS and other standards, pay attention to yield strength, elongation and other properties.
Precautions
Storage: moisture-proof and rust-proof, avoid scratches between layers.
Processing: cold-rolled coil forming needs to pay attention to rebound, and high-carbon steel coils have poor weldability.
Environmental protection: some countries/regions have carbon emission restrictions on carbon steel products.
