Application of stainless steel in construction

On April 10, at the expert report meeting held at the fourth meeting of the first executive director (expanded) meeting of the Stainless Steel Branch of the China Iron and Steel Association, Wu Yaohua, deputy director of the Expert Committee of the China Steel Structure Association, introduced the application of stainless steel in the construction field, pointed out that stainless steel has the advantage of carbon emissions throughout its life cycle in the construction field, and put forward suggestions on the key factors to promote the application of stainless steel buildings and improve relevant standards.
Wu Yaohua introduced that stainless steel is a green building material with advantages such as corrosion resistance and easy welding. At present, its application in construction is mainly in three aspects: one is stainless steel enclosure and structure; the second is stainless steel elevator; the third is stainless steel water supply pipes and water tanks.
In terms of building enclosure and structure, stainless steel has excellent corrosion resistance, high strength and lightweight design, beautiful and durable, excellent fire resistance and other application characteristics
From the perspective of corrosion resistance, stainless steel contains chromium, which can form a dense chromium oxide protective layer on the surface, effectively resisting the erosion of harsh environments such as acid rain and salt spray. This feature makes stainless steel enclosure structures show significant advantages in coastal, industrially polluted or high-humidity areas, which can greatly extend the service life of buildings and reduce later maintenance costs.
From the perspective of high strength, stainless steel has the characteristics of high strength and high toughness. The use of high-strength stainless steel materials in building envelope structures can achieve thinner plate thickness while ensuring the stability and safety of the structure. This lightweight design not only reduces the weight of the building, but also helps to improve construction efficiency and reduce transportation and installation costs.
Stainless steel buildings have a strong, bright, and immortal texture. From the perspective of beauty and durability, stainless steel has a high surface finish, is easy to clean and maintain, and can achieve different decorative effects through a variety of surface treatment methods.
