Stainless steel production increased
On April 25, the Stainless Steel Branch of the China Iron and Steel Association announced the statistical data of China’s crude stainless steel production, import and export volume, and apparent consumption in the first quarter of 2025. In the first quarter, China’s crude stainless steel production increased by 6.64% to 9.6242 million tons.
Specifically, in the first quarter, my country’s crude stainless steel production was 9.6242 million tons, an increase of 599,300 tons and 6.64% year-on-year. Among them, the output of Cr-Ni stainless steel was 4.9452 million tons, an increase of 186,000 tons and 3.91% year-on-year, accounting for 51.38% and 1.35 percentage points lower than the same period last year; the output of Cr-Mn stainless steel was 2.6955 million tons, an increase of 232,100 tons and 9.42% year-on-year, accounting for 28.01% and 0.71 percentage points higher; the output of Cr stainless steel was 1.8792 million tons, an increase of 176,100 tons and 10.34% year-on-year, accounting for 19.53% and 0.65 percentage points higher; the output of duplex stainless steel was 104,375 tons, an increase of 5,181 tons and 5.22% year-on-year.
From the perspective of import and export volume, in the first quarter, my country’s stainless steel exports increased, imports decreased, and net exports increased significantly: imports were 450,800 tons, down 157,300 tons year-on-year, down 25.86% (of which my country’s total stainless steel imports from Indonesia were 375,700 tons, down 158,300 tons year-on-year, down 29.64%); exports were 1.226 million tons, up 164,300 tons year-on-year, up 15.47%. Overall, in the first quarter, my country’s net stainless steel exports were 775,200 tons, up 321,600 tons year-on-year, up 70.88%.
From the perspective of apparent consumption, in the first quarter, the apparent consumption of stainless steel was 7.9263 million tons, up 229,000 tons year-on-year, up 2.97%.
